Design is extremely important in the fashion industry. advertisements are everywhere, and the point of them are to send a message to consumers about what the company represents, all in one picture with usually very little text.
A design I like a lot is the classic Marky Mark Calvin Klein ad. The picture being black and white creates a very classic, timeless look, although the CK ads are constantly changing, they always have a familiarity to them.
The use of white shows simplicity and creates a clean relaxing feeling. The font, perfectly centered at the bottom of the ad is sans serif and thin, and doesn’t make you feel like the ad is attacking you, like some ads do. The message is very clear, and to the point. Basic and simple.
The medium long shot helps show Mark's whole body, he is centered against a plain, darker background that makes him pop out more. The use of the lighting creates depth by showing the shadow making it seem less 2-demensional. it uses sex appeal to grab the attention of possible consumers, this one in particular makes men feel like the underwear are very masculine, and makes women assume (subconsciously) that Calvin Klein underwear are for sexy men.
overall the concept of this ad is very clear and the design of it is what makes it possible to understand this comcept "simple and sexy".
